“The location and being outdoors is great!”

Margam Park is a stunning 1000 acre country park in South
Wales, overlooking the Bristol Channel. It contains a diverse set of habitats;
woodland, hills, grassland, bogs, ponds and ornamental gardens, with a
corresponding plethora of wildlife for you to study. Being open to the public,
it attracts large numbers of visitors who can also be the focus of your
research. It’s a beautiful and relaxing place to work, and only a 2.5 hour
coach ride from Exeter.
We stay in the state of the art, low carbon footprint, Margam Discovery Centre. It is run by the Field Studies Council. Accommodation is in small, ensuite 4-6 bed dorms. We have fully equipped classrooms and labs to use, and a comfortable common room for relaxing (and partying) in at the end of the day. The food is excellent and plentiful: cooked and continental breakfasts, a choice of sandwiches, rolls pasties and cakes for lunch; a fresh-baked cake every day for afternoon tea(!!); and tasty evening meals where there is always opportunity for ‘seconds’. |
